FAQ
Frequently asked questions
ARE YOUR PRODUCTS TRULY NATURAL?
Yes! We carefully source the finest quality natural ingredients including herbs (some from our garden!), natural oils from small family farms, local beeswax, and wild-harvested pitch. There are no non-active ingredients in our products, which means no fillers, no stabilizers or preservatives.
DO YOU DO ANIMAL TESTING?
No. We try new products out on our own skin! We are huge animals lovers and are committed to cruelty-free practices. Once a product goes into production we use them on our pets, but only because our salves are great for soothing sore paws, sunburned noses, cuts and scrapes.
ARE YOU PRODUCTS VEGAN?
No. All of our products contain locally-sourced beeswax, which is an animal by-product. Our All-Purpose Piñon Salve also contains lanolin which is a by-product from already-shorn sheep's wool.
ARE YOUR PRODUCTS GLUTEN FREE?
Yes. None of our products contain gluten, nor are they produced in a facility that processes gluten.
DO YOUR PRODUCTS CONTAIN NUT OILS?
Yes. Each of our products contain sweet almond oil. This nut oil typically does not irritate people with nut allergies, but we strongly recommend consulting with a physician first if you have a nut allergy.
CAN ALL-PURPOSE PIÑON SALVE HELP HEAL ECZEMA AND PSORIASIS?
Our products are not medicinal or clinically proven drugs; they are traditional remedies that utilize natural ingredients to help your body's ability to heal itself. We have had many customers report that All-Purpose Piñon Salve has helped to soothe their skin from the discomforts of many skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis, but we cannot say definitively that it helps heal these conditions.
CAN I USE ALL-PURPOSE PIÑON SALVE ON OTHER BODY PARTS OR IS IT JUST FOR HANDS AND FEET?
You can use our All-Purpose Piñon Salve, and Face Balms too, on any body part that needs some extra nourishment. We use it on our hands, feet, elbows, lips, and any other rough, dry, hard-working skin. As with any skincare product, be sure to test some salve on a small patch of skin first, especially with sensitive skin or areas. Please note: our products are for external use only.
HOW LONG DOES A JAR OF SALVE LAST?
Our All-Purpose Piñon Salve is an ultra-concentrated product with no water or other fillers, and you will find a little goes a long way. A jar can last anywhere from one month to several years, depending on how many ways you use it and how many people are sharing the jar. Typically, a 2.5 oz jar will last you 6 months with frequent use, but this varies and depends based on your use preferences.
DO YOUR PRODUCTS EXPIRE?
A: Because our products are truly all-natural, we do not use any unnatural preservatives. Therefore, our products do have a shelf life. Our All-Natural Piñon Salve has natural preservatives of beeswax and pine pitch and can last a long time (we once had a customer find a jar that was 15 years old in the back of a cupboard and it was still fine!). However, we recommend using a jar within 24 months of opening it. We recommend using our Face Balms within 12 months of opening. If our products are kept out of direct sunlight and at room temperature or below, they will stay fresher longer.
ARE YOUR PRODUCTS SAFE TO USE ON BABIES?
Our products are safe on skin of all types and ages; however we always recommend testing our products on a small area of skin before using it everywhere.
I JUST GOT MY JAR AND THERE ARE CRACKS & OR DROPLETS ON THE SURFACE OF THE SALVE. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT?
No! Cracks form naturally on the surface of the salve as it cools, especially in our glass jars. Droplets can form when the salve is stored at warm temperatures in transit, and evaporation takes place. Droplets on the surface are not an indication of a change in efficacy in the product; simply wipe them away.
CAN I USE YOUR PRODUCTS ON MY ANIMALS?
Yes! We use All-Purpose Piñon Salve on our pets all the time. Lee has used it on dogs and cats for puncture wounds, abscesses, scrapes and fungal patches. It is good for dogs’ hot spots, noses that are sensitive because of lack of pigmentation, and more. Lee uses it on her horses too, for scrapes, or to repel insects (especially those nasty biting flies that make a mess of the inside of their ears). However, we are not veterinarians. If you have concerns about using it on your pet, please show the jar to your vet and ask their opinion before using it.
CAN I EAT YOUR PRODUCTS?
No. Our products are for external use only.
WHAT IF MY SALVE MELTS?
Because of the high beeswax content, our All-Purpose Piñon Salve does not melt easily in everyday heat. However, if left sitting in a hot car or out in the direct hot sun, it may get soft or melt. To re-solidify, put the jar somewhere cool and dry, and it will quickly firm up again, with no change in efficacy. Our Face Balms have less beeswax and may melt at lower temperatures, so be sure to store them in a cool, dry place.
ARE YOUR PRODUCTS FOR MEN OR WOMEN?
Both! About half our customers are men, and half women. Both our All-Purpose Piñon Salve and Face Salves were created to appeal to everyone, with gender-neutral scents and formulas.
HOW SOON CAN I EXPECT MY ORDER?
We try to ship orders out within 2-3 days. For U.S. Orders: after shipping, please allow another week for your order to arrive. For International Orders: after shipping, please allow up to four weeks or more for your order to arrive. Usually it will arrive sooner, but customs departments do have the right to hold items and there is not much we can do about this. Also, we do not pay for anything to be released from customs to you.
CAN I PURCHASE YOUR PRODUCTS ANYWHERE LOCALLY?
We are slowly expanding into more retail locations. Check here to see if there are any near you. If you are a small shop and are interested in carrying our products, please fill out a wholesale inquiry here.
ARE YOUR PRODUCTS MADE IN THE UNITED STATES?
Yes, all of our products are made by hand in our small production facility in Spring City, Utah.
